Job description
As mentioned earlier, the institute is searching for an Application Infrastructure team that builds, develops, and supports its applications and services, which connect with various systems within the University’s premises. Their application integrates data from different sources, manages Toronto Metropolitan University’s user online identity and resources, and provides convenient and collaborative tools for academics and administrative tasks. They’re seeking an Intermediate Java App Developer willing to work closely with their staff and faculty to design, implement, access, and support n-tier web applications across TMU that are robust, secure, and offer optimum academic and administrative worth. You will be a part of a software development team with proficiency in Java, Spring Framework, Web Services, and other technologies. A significant part of your role is to develop, integrate and build upon the University’s unique identity management system and develop and maintain new/existing tools, components, and applications. In April 2022, the University announced its new name, Toronto Metropolitan University, which will be implemented in a phased approach.

Computing and Communications Services is TMU’s central IT organization, printing, end-user computing support, server and storage infrastructure, computer labs, learning management system, web application development, application support, streaming media services, supporting the University’s voice and data communications, presentation technology-enabled classrooms and much more.

Job Qualifications

Successful completion of a four-year post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics with a minor specialization in Computer Science;
A minimum of three years experience in application development and support that includes every phase of project management requirement, analysis design, implementation, testing, and maintenance and hands-on experience in Angular 2+, jQuery, Javascript, Spring Boot, CSS, Bootstrap, Java, Web Services, APIs, ORM, SQL, Tomcat servlet container. Good Experience in Jenkins, Docker/OpenShift, and Robot Framework is considered an asset.
Extensive theoretical and practical knowledge and applied currency in:
Data modeling and database design
Software development cycle
System/application security, including OWASP security principles
Agile development
Authorization and Authentication for rich web client applications
Version control systems (preferably Git)
Unit, integration, and functional testing
Web API design and development
A demonstrated commitment to client service and excellent interpersonal skills are required;
Active team player (Ability to work as part of a team) and self-sufficiently;
Aptitude for self-directed learning and cooperative development with the team;
Exceptional written and oral communication skills;
Excellent judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills are vital;
Solid analytical skills are needed to analyze requirements for consistency, technical feasibility, and expense; develop systems plans including networked hardware and software, requirements for distributed client and server applications; Strong organizational, time management, and skills in multitasking, An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
